Established in 1976, Japan Centre Food is the Japanese cultural and gastronomic hub here in London. Passionate about providing a rich variety of Japanese goods to the UK and beyond, Japan Centre includes a supermarket, a bookstore, a deli serving fresh-made food, a fishmonger and butcher, a bakery with fresh pastries, and a homewares section filled with Japanese supplies.
The in-store selection is a marvel, but not everyone can visit in person, which is why in 2005 the online store was launched. No longer confined to a physical space, their reach grew, giving access to a whole new market of people. This shift led to a major expansion of influence as now any UK resident could hop online and find their favourite brand of sake, or that perfect ramen bowl.
Much has changed in the 45 years since Japan Centre Food opened, but one thing that has not is its status as the preeminent location for all things Japanese.
